repertory dance theatre

On Saturday evening I had the opportunity to see Repertory Dance Theatre (RDT) perform at the Eccles Center for Performing Arts in Park City. The evening featured eight dances whose origins spanned nearly six decades of modern dance. Although the earliest dance "Strange Hero" dated from 1948 the first dance "Duets in Brazilian - Indian Music", choreographed in 1998 was inspired by the native Brazilian culture.

Repertory Dance Theatre was founded in 1966 in Salt Lake City, Utah. RDT is a professional modern dance repertory company dedicated to the creation, performance, perpetuation and appreciation of dance. Known worldwide for its collection of dance treasures RDT maintains one of the largest and most diverse dance repertories in the world.

The highlights of the evening's performance included "Holy Rollers" from 1955 and the final dance "Sky Light" from 1982. With choreography, music and costume design by Laura Dean, the dynamic "Sky Light" was an extraordinary dance! Anna Kisselgoff, The New York Times described it as a "masterpiece of the genre ... it bursts forth with high energy and relentless climactic rhythms".

Overall the evening's performance was just phenomenal. I am very pleased to have had the opportunity to attend the performance and will be looking forward to seeing Repertory Dance Theatre perform again.
